Patriot Brief

  • What Happened: A CNN legal analyst dismantled lawsuits filed by Minnesota and Illinois that seek to block ICE from operating in their states.

  • Why It Matters: The analyst said the states cited zero legal precedent and that courts cannot bar federal agencies from enforcing federal law.

  • Bottom Line: Even left leaning legal voices admit the lawsuits are political statements with little chance of surviving in court.

When you lose CNN, you are officially cooked.

On air this week, CNN’s own legal analyst shredded the lawsuits filed by Minnesota and Illinois that attempt to ban Immigration and Customs Enforcement from operating in their states. And he did not sugarcoat it.

“These suits are really political diatribes masquerading as lawsuits,” he said.

That alone says everything.

Both states are asking federal courts to do something that has never been done in American history. They want judges to tell a federal law enforcement agency that it is not allowed to enforce federal law inside certain states and cities.

According to the CNN analyst, there is zero precedent for that. None.

“If you look at what both states are asking the courts to do, it’s to kick ICE out of those states and cities and to bar ICE from carrying on federal law enforcement in Illinois and Minnesota,” he explained. “They cite zero precedent for that.”

In other words, this is not law. It is politics dressed up in legal paperwork.

The analyst also pointed out that the lawsuits appear coordinated, reinforcing the idea that this is about messaging, not the Constitution. Courts do not exist to score political points. They exist to apply the law, and the law is crystal clear. Federal agencies enforce federal law. States do not get veto power.

“So these lawsuits, which appear to be coordinated, they’re potentially powerful political statements,” he said, “but I don’t give them much of a chance of achieving the legal thing that they’re asking for in the courts.”

That is about as brutal as it gets.

This is what happens when radical governors and attorneys general try to wage resistance politics instead of doing their jobs. They file lawsuits knowing they will lose, then cry persecution when reality shows up.

The Constitution has not changed. Federal law still matters. And even CNN knows it.
