  • Vernon Davis faces assault allegations tied to an argument over abortion.

  • The criminal complaint describes multiple alleged physical confrontations.

  • An arrest warrant has been issued, with a court appearance scheduled in February.

At a certain point, fame stops insulating anyone from consequences — and it certainly doesn’t excuse behavior that would be unacceptable from anyone else.

Former NFL tight end Vernon Davis, once a star for the San Francisco 49ers, is now facing serious allegations that have nothing to do with football. According to a criminal complaint filed Jan. 8, Davis is accused of assaulting a woman during an argument over abortion, allegedly throwing books and magazines at her inside his home.

The incident reportedly occurred in May 2025. The woman, who says she was in a relationship with Davis, claims the two argued over her pregnancy. During that dispute, she alleges Davis struck her with reading materials taken from beneath his television and offered her $10,000 to terminate the pregnancy. She further claims the incident only stopped once she pulled out her phone to record him.

That account alone would be troubling enough. But it doesn’t end there.

According to the complaint, the woman alleges another altercation roughly a week later, claiming Davis slapped her during a separate argument after she accused him of lying. She says he warned her “not to question him.” The filing also references an audio recording in which Davis allegedly told her, “If I really slapped you, your face would be blue/black.”

There are also claims of an earlier physical encounter that allegedly left visible signs of trauma.

An arrest warrant for Davis was issued Jan. 8 on charges of assault and battery, and he is scheduled to appear in court in February. At this stage, these are allegations — and Davis is entitled to due process like anyone else. But the nature of the claims, laid out in black and white in a criminal filing, are serious and difficult to wave away.

Davis enjoyed a long and lucrative NFL career, finishing with more than 7,500 receiving yards and 63 touchdowns while playing for the Denver Broncos and the then-Washington Redskins in addition to San Francisco. That résumé, however, has no bearing on whether the accusations are true — and shouldn’t.

If anything, cases like this underscore a reality many prefer to ignore: wealth, status, and public admiration don’t prevent personal conduct from unraveling behind closed doors. And when allegations involve coercion, violence, and pressure surrounding something as serious as pregnancy, they deserve sober scrutiny, not reflexive dismissal or tribal defense.

The court will determine the facts. But the seriousness of the claims alone makes this more than just another TMZ headline.

Vernon Davis, a former star tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, faces allegations of assaulting a woman during an abortion argument, doing so by allegedly hurling books and magazines at her.

The incident reportedly occurred in 2025. A criminal complaint filed Jan. 8 details claims from a woman who was in a relationship with Davis. She alleges that, while at his home May 31, the two argued about her pregnancy, according to TMZ Sports.

It’s claimed by the woman that Davis then started “hitting me w/ magazines + books from under his TV” and made an offer of $10,000 for her to get an abortion. She also alleges that the assault only stopped when she took out her phone to record him.

The alleged altercation between Davis and the woman reportedly wasn’t the only one.

One week after the alleged book-throwing altercation, the woman makes the claim that Davis slapped her on the face following her accusing him of lying. She alleges he issued a warning, saying “not to question him.”
