Patriot Brief

  • What Happened: Stephen Colbert drew fire for suggesting comparing ICE agents to Nazis was unfair because Nazis “were willing to show their faces.”

  • Why It Matters: The remark minimizes the historical horror of the Holocaust while leveling an extreme insult at federal immigration enforcement during an ongoing national debate.

  • Bottom Line: Liberals are using hyperbolic rhetoric to erode objective reality and smear law enforcement at a volatile moment in national politics.

Stephen Colbert just didn’t stop at criticizing Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He took it a sick step further.

During a recent monologue on “The Late Show,” Colbert addressed comparisons of ICE and Border Patrol to Nazis. But instead of condemning the analogy, he argued that the Nazis were better because at least they “were willing to show their faces.” The audience erupted in applause.

That is not a slip. That is not an awkward joke. That is a deliberate attempt to degrade the historical reality of one of the worst genocides in human history to score political points against federal law enforcement. The Holocaust systematically tortured, starved, and executed millions of Jews, disabled people, and others. Comparing modern immigration agents enforcing U.S. law to that regime is offensive on its face.

Colbert’s comment did not happen in a vacuum. It comes amid heated national debate over immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota that have seen intense protests and deadly confrontations. Federal agents have been criticized by late–night hosts and liberals for their actions. But equating them with the architects of genocide and then claiming the genocide was somehow more honorable is reckless and dangerous.

This isn’t entertainment. It is a tactic to erode shared reality and normalize extreme rhetoric. Normal Americans know that enforcing immigration laws is not genocide. What’s worse, this kind of rhetoric inflames division at a time when calm, lawful discourse is desperately needed. Liberals need to touch grass, recognize historical truth, and stop using history’s worst mass murderers as political weapons.
