Patriot Brief
What Happened: The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child began meetings to advance a draft policy redefining children’s rights to include abortion access and gender ideology.
Why It Matters: The draft urges states to remove parental involvement and promote abortion and LGBT policies for minors, creating global pressure despite not being legally binding.
Bottom Line: Critics warn the proposal would erode parental rights and child protections by exporting radical social policy worldwide.
The United Nations is back at it, and this time the target is parents.
From January 12 through January 30, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is meeting to push a draft policy tied to its Convention on the Rights of the Child that would redefine “children’s rights” to include abortion access and the promotion of gender ideology to minors.
Buried in the draft language is a clear message. Parents are the problem. The document urges governments to ensure access to abortion for adolescent girls and to remove parental approval entirely. One section calls for “effective access to safe abortion services for adolescent girls,” framing abortion as a child’s right rather than a grave moral decision.
The draft also promises protections for “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex children” and calls on states to adopt a so called “gender transformative approach.” In plain English, that means reshaping laws, schools, and institutions to affirm a child’s declared gender identity while sidelining parents who object.
This is not theory. This is policy pressure.
A growing body of evidence shows that most children experiencing gender dysphoria outgrow it by late adolescence and that medicalized “transition” does not reduce suicide risk. In many cases, it worsens mental health outcomes by reinforcing confusion instead of addressing root causes.
The document was drafted in 2024, opened for public consultation in 2025, and is now under formal review. While not legally binding, it would be used to pressure countries, courts, schools, and hospitals to comply.
Pro family advocates are sounding the alarm. Chris Elston, known as Billboard Chris, warned that the UN is trying to classify abortion for minors as a child’s right while removing parents entirely from the decision. A CitizenGo petition signed by thousands warns the policy would become a global standard used to coerce parents and override conscience.
The UN has a long history of pushing abortion under the banner of human rights while ignoring real abuses in places like China and Venezuela.
Parents have the God given responsibility to protect their children. Children are not adults. And global bureaucrats have no moral authority to override families. This proposal is not about rights. It is about control.
